Frequently asked questions.

Massage & Bodywork

What should I wear to a massage?

When you’re prepping for a massage, maybe even your first massage (yay!), it’s common to wonder what you should wear. for the occasion. I recommend clothing that’s easy to slip in and out of so you’re not trying to wrestle a pesky button or fancy tie after your massage while you’re still basking in post-session blissland.

There's no wrong outfit to wear, but here are a few things you'll want to avoid: perfumes or colognes, a fresh spray tan, and any clothing you'd be upset to get a little oil or lotion on. Some folks choose to keep their underwear on during a massage, which is perfectly fine—just keep in mind that any clothing you leave on may come into contact with oil or lotion, though staining is usually avoidable.

What can I expect from a massage session?

This varies by provider, but here’s what you can expect during a massage with Babymoon Wellness!

Before your session, you’ll have a brief chat with your massage therapist to share any physical aches, pains, or areas where you'd like extra focus. Just as important, you'll also let them know if there are any areas you prefer not to have massaged.

Your therapist will then step out to give you privacy while you undress to your comfort level and get settled on the massage table. Once you're ready, your therapist will return and begin the session. Throughout the session, you will be draped modestly with a sheet or blanket, ensuring you feel comfortable, snug, and secure at all times.

When your session is complete, your therapist will quietly let you know the next steps—this involves them stepping out again while you redress. Afterward, you’ll have a chance to go over any recommended stretches or self-care tips, and you’re welcome to ask any questions or share any concerns.

Should I eat before a massage?

It's usually best to enjoy a light meal about two hours before your massage to help ensure you can fully relax without hunger distracting you. A small snack 30–45 minutes beforehand can also be a good option. While staying hydrated is always important, try to avoid drinking too much right before your session to avoid any mid-massage trips to the restroom.

Is prenatal massage safe?

Prenatal massage is both safe and incredibly beneficial for you and your baby when provided by a licensed massage therapist who understands contraindications and necessary precautions. At Babymoon Wellness, we offer prenatal massage at all stages of pregnancy because we believe pregnancy isn’t a condition—it’s a magical (though sometimes uncomfortable) experience that deserves support.

Let’s be real—why should women have to suffer through the often grueling first trimester without access to bodywork, especially when there's no evidence-based reason to withhold it?

One thing to note: You won’t find those face-down pregnancy pillows here. Our prenatal massage is done in a side-lying or semi-reclined position, following expert recommendations. In fact, most professionals—including the American Pregnancy Association—advise against massage pillows that allow pregnant women to lie face down. This position can strain ligaments, put unnecessary pressure on the abdomen, and compromise comfort and safety. Instead, we prioritize side-lying massage with proper pillow support to ensure the best experience for you and your baby.

Do I have to take off all my clothes for a massage??

Your comfort is my top priority. You’re welcome to disrobe to whatever level feels right for you—whether that means staying fully clothed from head to toe or embracing your birthday suit, you’ll receive the same relaxing, therapeutic, and restorative treatment. I use professional, modest draping to ensure you feel secure, comfortable, and at ease throughout your session.

Doula & Perinatal Support

What does a doula do?

A doula is your personal guide through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum—kind of like a well-trained best friend who knows a lot about labor, birth, and recovery. They don’t replace your medical team but instead focus on your emotional, physical, and informational needs. Whether you need reassurance, hands-on support, or a breakdown of what’s happening, your doula is there to help you feel confident and in control every step of the way.

Do doulas only support unmedicated births?

Nope! Doulas support all kinds of births—unmedicated, epidural, induction, planned C-section, home birth, hospital birth, you name it. They aren’t there to push a specific birth plan but to support your choices. Since doulas are trained in all the usual interventions, pain relief options, and variations of labor, they act as a trusted encyclopedia throughout the process—helping you understand your options so you can make the best decisions for you and your family.

What kind of support does a doula provide during labor?

Doulas offer a mix of hands-on comfort (massage, counterpressure, breathwork), emotional support (because labor is intense, and having a steady, reassuring presence makes a huge difference), and informational support (helping you navigate what’s happening in real time). Since they’re trained in labor and birth, they can explain interventions, timelines, and what’s considered normal—so you’re never left wondering. They’re not there to tell you what to do but to make sure you have all the information you need to feel confident in your choices.

Can a doula help with a planned C-section?

Absolutely! A doula can support you through every step—helping you prepare mentally and emotionally, talking through what to expect, and making sure you have a solid plan for recovery. In some hospitals, they can even be in the operating room with you, offering reassurance and keeping you grounded. Since they’re trained in surgical birth and postpartum recovery, they can also help with movement strategies, positioning for feeding, and making sure you have the support you need for a smooth transition into recovery.

How does a doula work with my medical team?

Doulas aren’t there to replace doctors, nurses, or midwives—they’re there to complement your care team and make sure you feel heard and supported. They help you navigate conversations with your providers, break down medical jargon, and ensure you understand your options. Since they’re trained in the full spectrum of labor and birth, they can provide unbiased, evidence-based information—so instead of making decisions in the dark, you feel informed and empowered to choose what’s best for you and your baby.
